Assignment #9 TED Talk

Filmed March 2015 at TED2015

Bill Gates: The next outbreak? We’re not ready

WATCH AT YOUTUBE

TED OFFICIAL WEBSITE

Last year, there was a dramatically devastating virus which was called Ebola broke out in west Africa. We have experienced a lot of different epidemics. But think about it, they have some relationship. They will stronger than former one. When I studied at elementary school, a fatal virus called SARS. At that time many people died, and one of the hospitals in Taiwan was blocked because of the uncontrollable condition.

First, Bill Gates pointed out an important issue:are we ready for the next outbreak? That's an unavoidable crisis we have to face in the future. Along with antibiotic be discovered, the human beings overused this kind of product. The virus will also have immunity and gradually become bigger and bigger. In contrast with a war, it is not easy to notice microbes. Second, our country invested a lot of amount in the nuclear weapon but we have invested very little in a system which included comprehensive medical staff to prevent an contagion.

The last thing, people in some areas are lack of knowledge in health concept. We should focus on this region and organize a group with people who have got the training and background in medical. In order to estimate and find out the cause, do simulations in germ game and then coordinate with the military which have the ability to move fast. With all the elements, maybe we will probably have the chance to fight with this small thing we couldn't see.

Assignment #6 Steve Jobs’ Talk

Steve Jobs, one of the most famous entrepreneurs in the world. The youth who in the college step may have lose themselves. But rethinking, we should do what we wanna do. If we do something that we don't like at all, maybe this is a kind of torture. Although we find something we interested in, we must deeply study this field and be an expert.

The chance will stand by somebody who is well-prepared. This is the same with Jobs because he didn't know the course he take will use in the future. So, I really agree that. Take the most simplest thing for example, college entrance examination. My high school teacher once taught me if you didn't have any idea what you want to do or learn in the future, just studied. When you finish the exam, at least you have a choice to choose a department not a school choose you. Finally, we can smoothly enter the college that we really want.

No one could escape from death. "Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish." Be curious in everything, be passionate in novelty industry. We will have more and more thought to let the world be better.

Dogma

(British Engilsh : enrol , US English : enroll)

Relent
  • to finally agree to something after refusing
EX: The government has relented on this issue.

Good sentences from the talks

"If I had never dropped in on that single course in college, the Mac would have never had multiple typefaces or proportionally spaced fonts."

"If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you'll most certainly be right."

Assignment #5 English song

Lost stars - Maroon 5
Singer : Adam Levine

An introduction of the singer

Adam Levine is the member of "Maroon 5". His nationality is United States of America. His band has a lot of great music such as "Sugar"

Lyrics

Please don't see
Just a boy caught up in dreams and fantasies
Please see me
Reaching out for someone I can't see

Take my hand, let's see where we wake up tomorrow
Best laid plans sometimes are just a one night stand
I'll be damned, Cupid's demanding back his arrow
So let's get drunk on our tears and

God, tell us the reason youth is wasted on the young
It's hunting season and the lambs are on the run
Searching for meaning
But are we all lost stars trying to light up the dark?

Who are we?
Just a speck of dust within the galaxy?
Woe is me
If we're not careful turns into reality

don't you dare let our best memories bring you sorrow
Yesterday I saw a lion kiss a deer
Turn the page, maybe we'll find a brand new ending
Where we're dancing in our tears and

God, tell us the reason youth is wasted on the young
It's hunting season and the lambs are on the run
searching for meaning
But are we all lost stars trying to light up the dark?

And I thought I saw you out there crying
And I thought I heard you call my name
And I thought I heard you out there crying
But just the same

And God, give us the reason youth is wasted on the you
ng
It's hunting season and the lambs are on the run
searching for meaning
But are we all lost stars trying to light up the dark?

And I thought I saw you out there crying
And I thought I heard you call my name
And I thought I heard you out there crying
But are we all lost stars trying to light up the dark?
Are we all lost stars trying to light up the dark?

Three words that I learn from the song

fantasy

  • His childhood fantasies about becoming a famous football player

galaxy

  • Scientists observing phenomena in nearby galaxies

arrow
  • The road continues as straight as an arrow.

I like this song because the singer's special voice in high pitch that sounds fantastic. The song was the soundtrack of the movie which called "Begin again" or "Can a song save your life?". When we lost ourselves, we might be frustrated. In addition, we want to be better. So, the expectation becomes bigger and bigger. As we failed, our confidence broke suddenly. It must be disappointing about this unhappy condition. Although the failure is exactly depressed, we have to cheer up! After failing, it is important to restart our life journey and rethink how to take next step. I think it is the song that want to tell us.

Assignment #4 Six Minute English

I really like the website which provide a lot of conversation and good pronunciation. In addition, a variety of topic that interests me so much. This website is suitable for someone who want to improve listening skill and get the latest news around the globe.

Global warming

EPISODE 160915 / 15 SEP 2016

I choose the most related topic from the website which calls : Global warming. Before the subject starts, one of the host refer to a question. How much has the average temperature of the Earth's surface increased in the last hundred years? The answer will be reveal after the talks. The two speakers are discussing how to adapt to the extreme weather and mitigate the greenhouse gas emissions. We all know that our earth is now situating in a emergency. If we still ignore the crisis, the mother nature will bring some devastating disaster. Although some rich countries have promised that they will offer a hundred billion dollars a year started from 2020, it is not enough to prevent the global warming. Because it would probably more serious than banking crisis. Hence, we have to do something to protect our home from the harmful condition. Even though a small behavior such as recycle the bottle, it helps! In the end, the question that asked before the topic. The answer is 0.85 degree Celsius.

This week, our teacher introduce a new tool to learn English which calls : Podcast. This website is compose of daily dialogue and you can choose a variety of topic that really interests you. I think the speed is suitable for someone whose listening skill is poor. However, I feel asleep when the speaker's smooth tone. If the sound is lively, it would attract more people.

ESL Podcast 1247 – Doing Meal Planning

In the dialogue, the two speaker discuss how to make a list for meal planning and control the budget in every meal. I choose this topic because it is very common in our life. When we go to supermarket or traditional market, the list can help us buy something that we truly need. Along with the food shortage in the globe, this is a good idea not to waste the resource.
